All devices of a similar character are included in a single catalog Group, separate Units being used when desirable to cover different forms of apparatus in the group. For example, 3204 is the Group number for "Steam Driven Air Compressors," while 3204-1 is the Unit number covering the 8M-inch Cross Compound Compressor. This arrangement has been found very satisfactory and convenient since it greatly simplifies and facilitates reference to any Class of devices and in consequence to any Device of a class, avoids repetition, and permits easy revision or addition as required.
